The next day we travelled by bus from Jasper to Lake Louise where we stayed at the Fairmont Chateau overlooking a frozen lake. The scenery that day was unbelievable and the most spectacular I have ever seen. We walked around the frozen lake that afternoon – daylight until about 9pm and it was quite strange as it was warm enough to be in short sleeves, but we were surrounded by snow and ice.

The next day we caught a bus from Lake Louise to Calgary – it took about 4 hours as we picked people up along the way – the contrast between the Rockies and the flatness of the prairies was quite amazing! We made it to Calgary in time to catch our flight back to Vancouver.

It was so good to be back at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, Vancouver after spending 5 nights in different hotels. We were reunited with the luggage we had stored at the hotel whilst we were on the Rocky Mountaineer.

We spent the day relaxing and repacking in preparation for our cruise to Alaska. We found time to visit the fabulous Vancouver Library with a facade similar to that of the Roman Colosseum.

We also walked through the city and caught a ferry across to Granville Island – a fascinating place with food and craft markets, where we had a lovely fish and calamari lunch overlooking the water and boats.
